Troop Strength In Vietnam Drops to 484,400
The U.S. Command said American troops in Vietnam declined to 484,400, the lowest in two years, with 4,800 fewer troops in the prior week. Officials expect the number to fall to 480,000 by December 15 as part of Nixon's withdrawal plan.

State police investigate two holdups Sunday at I 80 and Minooka Road service stations. At Ned's in Grundy County a man in a red and white ski mask robbed attendant Robert Zham Jr. of 170 dollars at 1:35 a.m. The suspect fled. the car was later found near Minooka and reported stolen in Joliet. At Brown's Texaco on the Kendall County side two masked men took 198 dollars from John Parris of Minooka at 10:50 p.m. No arrests.

23 Deer Killed In Grundy County Over Weekend
Conservation Inspector Dan Hill reported 23 deer killed in Grundy County during shotgun season weekend. Hunters took 14 bucks and nine does. largest doe weighed 117 pounds and largest buck 175 pounds. About 200 shotgun permits issued and nearly 50 landowners allowed hunting on their property.
