Two Killed In Southeast Coal City Head On Collision

Two Grundy County residents Albert Watson 25 of Braceville and William McLuckie 19 of Coal City died in a head on crash on Reed Road southeast of Coal City at 11 20 p m. Coroner W Clark Davis pronounced them dead at the scene. Firemen fought a post crash fire and deputies investigated. Funeral services for McLuckie were held at Reeves Funeral Home in Coal City with burial in Braceville Gardner Cemetery. Watson funeral services followed at Reeves Funeral Home with burial in Braceville Gardner Cemetery. Watson survived by wife four children and eight siblings. McLuckie survived by parents two brothers and two sisters. He resided in Coal City and worked at Caterpillar in Joliet. Memorial gifts to the Coal City Methodist Church requested.

Commuter Train Crash Kills Two in Skokie Ill

Two men died and one was injured after a collision involving their cars and the Swift, a high speed commuter train. Donald Mack 28 of Northlake and Earl Murphy of Chicago died in one car. Robert French 47 of Northfield survived and was hospitalized. The Swift derailed but no aboard casualties were reported.

Plans boat harbor and dike on Illinois River

Foster M. Ford of 101 Spruce Street has filed with the Illinois Division of Waterways in Springfield for a construction permit to build a small boat harbor and dike on the right bank of the Illinois River in Morris. Francis S. Lorenz, public works director, released the information.

Soviet President Nikolai Podgorny returned to Moscow after a weeklong visit to Vienna where he urged against Austrian moves toward closer ties with the European Common Market.

Strike Closes Ohio Schools in Youngstown and Hubbard

Forty-eight schools in Youngstown and Hubbard shut down as a teachers strike draws support from bus drivers and truckers. About 2,000 parochial pupils faced transport disruption while students at Hubbard attended classes briefly with rival union members. Superintendent Wanamaker urged radios notices for students to stay away from classes.

Christmas Seal Totals Reach $3 385

Grundy County raises 3385 dollars in Christmas Seals through the county health and tuberculosis association. President Herbert Weitz notes totals trail 1965 by 71 dollars for the same date and early gifts will cover mail follow ups and address corrections.

At the United Nations General Assembly the United States again rejected seating Red China while backing a plan by Italy and five others for a full high level study of the China question. Ambassador Arthur Goldberg urged the two thirds vote and affirmed support for expelling Nationalist China only after study conclusions.

Second Loss for American Motors Corp

AMC reports a 12 month loss of 12.6 million for the year ended Sept 30 1960. The deficit follows a 25.4 million loss in 1956 and prompts the board to omit the quarterly dividend for the fifth straight quarter. Chairman Robert B Evans and President Ray Abernethy note the $12.65 million loss is below expectations with some fourth quarter improvement.

Worker Injured at Material Service Corp in Everett Egeland Fall

Everett Egeland of 1212 Lisbon Street was injured shortly after 6 30 a m when he fell at work at Material Service Corp. He was transported by Davis ambulance to Morris Hospital where at 11 a m he was listed in fair condition.
