Robert Chord resigns as Shabbona School principal after seven years with Morris Grade School District No. 54. He will take the Saratoga School superintendency. Chord and his family will remain near Morris, while the district funds urgent building items and reviews Hume School use. The board also approves joining the North Central Association and several personnel and budget actions.
Variable cloudiness and cooler conditions forecast with a chance of brief showers this afternoon. High near 50 with a cold night expected as lows near 30. Thursday looks partly cloudy and warmer with lower sixties. Dresden Island Locks and Dam reported a Tuesday high of 78 and low of 37. 7 am temperature at 38 and precipitation measured 0.26 inches.
In London free bullion markets gold hit an 18 month high as Belgium cashed in $80 million of Ft Knox gold amid dollar uncertainty. The move risks undermining the U S monetary system and prompts questions about U S gold reserves and Roosevelt era commitments. The price rose to 40 70 an ounce the highest since 1969.
A Tuesday fire southwest of Wilmington killed two children, Thomas Kunkel Jr aged 18 months and Allen age 3 months. Their mother Sandy Kunkel 22 suffered severe burns and was hospitalized. The children's father Thomas survived with no reported injuries.
H Dale Barr assistant superintendent in Alsip was named Morris Grade School District No 54 superintendent by the board Wednesday night. He will start July 1 on a two year contract earning 22500 for 1971 72 and 23500 the following year. Barr has prior experience in districts 126 123 and Kolmar School Oak Lawn and holds BA and MA from Southern Illinois University. He is a Fairfield native and veteran who served four years in the Navy during the Korean War.
Unseasonable cool air covers Illinois with frost expected in the north and central regions tonight. Chicago hits a record low of 33 with other readings: Moline 37 Peoria 37 Quincy 41 Springfield 44 Rockford 47 and south readings in the 50s to 60s with showers possible in the south.

Sen. Alan Cranston demanded removal of Lockheed Aircraft executives before any federal loan guarantees. He criticized an administration proposal to provide 250 million in loan guarantees to the California headquarters based defense contractor, warning it would face Congress without management changes.

Kendall County board reorganization re elected Russell Naden chairman for a 26th year. The meeting named Robert Hacker and James Mann to sheriff and road and bridge committees. Zoning actions approved include A to A-3 rezoning in Oswego Township and R-3 zoning in Little Rock Township with 10 lots, plus 10 Fox Lawn lots in Kendall Township. An extension to planning contracts includes Plano involvement with $13,500 total.
In Hollywood Florida Teamsters leaders held a crucial meeting to decide Hoffa's fate for re election as president of the 2 million member union. Hoffa still imprisoned awaits word through his attorneys after a parole bid failed and a judge refused to modify his consecutive sentences.
Gary Olsen is slightly improved at Morris Hospital while his wife Bonnie remains in critical condition after a four car crash on Illinois 47 near Hume School. The crash also killed Mrs. Billy Everett of Morris.
