Morris City Creates New Public Works Superintendent Post
At the May 1 meeting Morris City Council approved a new Superintendent of Public Works and appointed Wilfred Dix, current building and zoning officer, to the post. Dix described duties including coordinating schedules for about 20 city employees and overseeing streets water sewage plant and city engineers while retaining his building and zoning duties. His combined salary will be 10 000 annually. The move aims to better coordinate staff and meet state and federal paperwork requirements.

An 18 year old Morris resident in fair condition at Morris Hospital after his 1972 650 cc Triumph struck a garage door at Wilson's Chevrolet on Franklin Street at 8 10 p m Tuesday. A window was broken and the bike damaged. Police had few details as rumors swirled.

Late night snack sparks rural home blaze injures none
A 16 year old in the Harry Wickman family woke to smoke in the garage and family room on Rod and Gun Club Road about 11:30 p.m. The youth called Morris fire department. neighbors aided a 19 year old son with a disability and an 8 year old daughter. Firefighters fought the blaze until about 1 a.m. causing $3,500 in home damage and $2,000 in contents. Authorities say faulty wiring in the garage corner started the fire.

Former prisoner killed by off duty officers in Lockport
Charles Hite 36 of Lockport was shot and killed Tuesday by two off duty sheriff's deputies who said he and an accomplice robed Os car's Lounge outside Lockport. The men followed them in and the robber fled with an undetermined amount of cash. Hite had a long record of robbery and drug convictions and was awaiting transfer to state prison on parole violations after four inmates stole guard keys on April 5.
