Car Train Crash in Covington Kills Nine Youths
Nine teenagers died and a tenth was critically injured when a Georgia Railroad freight train struck a small car carrying friends near Covington. Driver Daniel Henderson, 16, and eight others, aged 12 to 16, perished. Sharon Belcher, 16, survived. The group lived within blocks of Covington. The train traveled about 45 mph at the time of impact.
