President Johnson warned that prices are rising too fast and may prompt new anti inflation steps even in an election year. He cautioned against overheating the economy while noting past actions may or may not curb inflation.
Sheriff Olson investigated the theft of 20 whitewall Gates tires from a rack at Bates Texaco Service Station near Coal City. The tires, ranging from 9.50-14 to 7.50-14, were valued at 22 dollars each, and the rack was destroyed, valued at 400 dollars. The theft occurred between 11 p.m. Wednesday and 8 a.m. today, after a call from Chuck Suydam at 8:25 a.m.
Committees studying a proposed Class I junior college to serve Will Grundy and Kendall counties will meet at 8 p m today in the Plainfield Grade School Central School gym. Final recommendations on boundary lines tax rate and educational program will be made. a film on Michigan junior college development will be shown. Kenneth E Timm Joliet chairs the citizens central committee noting Michigan leads Illinois by about three years.

An angry crowd on the courthouse steps kicked and punched seven antiwar demonstrators after four burned draft cards. About 50 of a 200-strong crowd surged up the steps and destroyed draft classification notices with a gas burner. Two men were beaten inside. two youths, including David Benson and David Reed, had previously burned their reclassification notices.
