Minooka High to hear bid recommendation for auditorium
At an adjourned 8 p.m. meeting the Minooka High School Board will hear an architect’s recommendation on bids for a 750 seat auditorium and for a bleacher building. Base bids ranged from 708,600 to 818,000 for the auditorium and 65,000 to 101,500 for the public bleacher building. McCoy and Son bid the combined total 856,612 and did not submit a separate public-building bid.

Reckless driving suspect vehicle halted by Morris police
Yorkville police stopped a 1974 Volkswagen with three occupants on Illinois 47 for reckless driving. After contacting Kendall County authorities, the trio including driver Catherine Mitchell 22 of Champaign and passengers Lawrence Anderson 20 of Chicago and Thomas Platt 20 of River Grove were released when the complaint was dropped.

Dismissal of three misdemeanor counts in Noonan case
Grundy County clerk Mary Jane Noonan 47 had three of nine counts dismissed in Grundy County Circuit Court. Suspect arson eyed in three Division Street house fires
Fires Saturday on Illinois 47 owned by the state highway project burned three Morris homes. A rug in the 1109 Division St. house was found burning after 2 p.m. Fire chief Hexdall and state fire marshal were notified as the 1041 Division St. house suffered extensive damage and the others minor damage. Police and fire crews fought the blazes from 2:06 to 4:15 p.m.

Voters in parts of Will Grundy and Kendall counties approved the Tri County Public Library by a 3 to 1 margin. Man dies in 15 foot scaffold fall at Will County plant
A Coal City man Richard W. Cheek 37 was killed Saturday when a scaffold gave way above a set up oven loaded on a semi trailer at International Transport Co Bluff Rd east on Interstate 55 Will County. The coroner cited skull fracture as the cause of death and an inquest will be scheduled.

Brown bear sighting reported along Pine Bluff Road
The Grundy County Sheriff's Department received a report Sunday that a brown bear was walking along the roadway at Pine Bluff Rd half a mile east of Goose Lake. Wesley Howard of Wilmington reported seeing the bear at 12 10 a.m. Sgt. Tim Neary investigated but found no bear.

Trucks Collide On Interstate 80 In Illinois
An Iowa truck driver, Roger A. Sell, 25, was ticketed for failure to reduce speed after his 1972 International struck the rear of a 1970 Mack driven by Richard M. Johnson, 41, on I 80 near Illinois 47. Johnson was taken to Morris Hospital. Sell was uninjured. A snow plow cleared mud and ice as two trucks were moved from the scene.
