St Charles approves school addition bond issue

State park farm lease awarded to Henke pair

The Illinois 47 River Bridge at Morris will close from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday beginning April 17 to replace the deck with concrete filled steel grids. The project, reported by the Illinois Department of Transportation, will proceed with nightly deck replacements into early August, followed by a two week period of single lane closures for final resurfacing. Completion is planned for September. The substructure and bearing assemblies will be repaired and the bridge will be lighted. A nearby canal bridge will be widened and repaired, with detours posted via Illinois 113 to I-55 and U.S. 6.

Joliet fire kills two persons
Two people died and another was treated for smoke inhalation after a Monday night house fire in Joliet. Victims were identified as Robert Hamlin 65 and Mary Hilburn 67. Hilburn’s husband Hubert 68 was hospitalized for smoke inhalation.
River reaches flood stage at Morris and Illinois floods
The Illinois River reached flood stage Monday night due to tributary water and Kankakee River ice. Dresden Lock and Dam reported flood level at 11:10 p.m. Large ice chunks moved through the dam about 6 a.m. but were broken by locks as flow slowed. Continental Grain Co. gauges showed near 13.0 feet with rising water from ongoing ice flow.

Leonard Bols Improves in Joliet Hospital ICU
Leonard Bols, Grundy County Board member, remained in critical condition at St. Joseph Hospital Joliet but his wife said his condition is improving daily. Officials report he has been ill since February 7 and is 58 years old. Bols, from Aux Sable Township, is a former county board member and chairs the highway committee.

Arambasich trials rescheduled to April 6 in Wilmington
Edward Arambasich and John Arambasich, both of Teal Lane Wilmington, face extortion charges. The U S Attorney’s office says trials now set for April 6, after earlier expectation of a Monday start before U S Judge John Grady. Edward is a business agent for Ironworkers local 444 and allegedly forced nine builders to hire his brother as a ghost worker to avoid union harassment.
