Robert Renifro age 52 former Johnson County clerk has been indicted on theft by deception charges over 6810 in checks written to his wife Elaine Rentfro while he served as clerk. Garbage Gobbler experiment seeks to turn trash into power in Menlo Park
A prototype garbage gobbler grinds and burns refuse to drive a jet engine generator with the aim of turning trash into electricity. Developers Richard D. Smith and William C. Bell expect a 40 ton per day unit producing about 1 000 kilowatts, with a 400 ton version projected at up to 15 000 kilowatts. Funded by the EPA, the project has cost about 4.2 million for the 400 ton model and about 1 per ton operating cost, plus a 30 year loan to finance construction.
