Johnson Leads Push for Accelerated Civil Public Works

Sen Lyndon Johnson testified for a fast tracked federal public works program urging action rather than credit. He and 65 senators sponsor a resolution urging speedier civil projects costing about four billion dollars including dams river and harbor work and public buildings. He noted Eisenhower’s steps to boost the economy and urged full use of resources to fight unemployment. He also supports a separate three billion dollar military construction appropriation. He called the move an urgent first step with more proposals to follow.

Two Die in Headon Collision North of Joliet

St Louis Hit by 9 Inch Snow and Slush After Warm Sun

A nine inch snowstorm paralyzed St Louis with many vehicles stalled on hills and in ditches. Warm sun later melted snow, though bus service faced delays. Civil Defense Films to Have Free Showing

Free public screening at 8 p m Wednesday in the Morris Masonic Temple shows two Civil Defense motion pictures. A Day Called X covers Portland evacuation, a 30 minute color film The Role of the Warden in This Hydrogen Age runs 27 minutes.
