Supreme Court Sets July 8 Hearing on Girard Case

The Supreme Court will hear arguments on July 8 whether Army Specialist 3.C. Williams S. Death Toll in Po Floods Rises to Twenty in Delta

In northern Italy the death toll from a week of floods and landslides reached at least 20 as rain swollen the Po River. Floodwaters covered more than 25 square miles of the Po Delta, washing away crops and causing widespread damage.

Brownie and Intermediate Scouts Plan Gebhard Woods Day Camp

Grundy county and Seneca Girl Scout groups will convene at Gebhard Woods state park for a week long Day Camp with an American Indian theme. About 200 scouts will attend with meals by each unit and a Friday evening campfire closing. Leaders and staff from Morris Seneca Braceville and surrounding towns will supervise crafts hiking swimming and lore activities.

United States to Send Fast Jets to Korea Monday

The United States will begin deploying F 100 jets to South Korea from Osan airbase to counter North Korean bomber and fighter buildup. The move, aided by new radar, follows the armistice ban abrogation and adds to 150 Sabre jets already in service. Kim Il Sung called for a conference of concerned nations and accused the United States of aggression.

A warrant for the arrest of Jack Smith, 23, Morris, was sworn out after Morris Savon Gas Station, 1015 Division St, was looted of about $400 early Friday. Smith reportedly opened the station at 6 am and left about an hour later claiming to forget something at home.

Physicist Johannes Stark Dies in Traunstein at 83

German physicist Johannes Stark died in Traunstein at 83 after a heart attack. Stark, Nobel laureate in 1919 for spectral analysis of electromagnetic fields, later served a four year labor camp sentence in 1947 from a German denazification court. He was a member of a Nazi committee on the Jewish question.

Three Hurt in Friday Night Auto Accidents

Three people were treated at Morris hospital after two unrelated auto accidents Friday night. Judy Walker, 17, of Minooka Route 2, suffered a forehead laceration and hand injury in Kendall County on U.S. Highway 52. Mrs. Claude Caron, 23, of Montreal, was admitted with hip and chest injuries after a crash on U.S. Highway 66 near Braceville involving a vehicle driven by her husband and another driven by Robert Uerkwitz, 25, of Coal City. Uerkwitz had a right elbow laceration and was to have X rays today. Mr. Caron was unhurt.

Withdrawal of 30 000 U S forces from Japan planned

President Eisenhower and Prime Minister Kishi reached a joint communique announcing the prompt withdrawal of all U S ground combat forces from Japan starting in July with a substantial further reduction in U S forces within a year. The agreement also discusses disarmament talks and revising the mutual security treaty.

Fargo Tornado Destroys 1,464 Homes and Kills 10

A survey shows 1,464 Fargo area homes destroyed or damaged as the tornado killed 10 and left more than 80 injured. The Red Cross reports 329 houses leveled and 1,135 damaged, 202 severely, with unofficial losses near 10 million dollars.
