Chicago man charged in Channahon theft case
A Chicago man, Wayne Williams, 22, was charged with theft after about 100 to 150 dollars vanished from the Channahon Standard Station. The arrest followed a chase on I 55 near Dwight, involving a 1971 Oldsmobile. Rosemary Anderson, 30, also in the car, faced Chicago Police on 70 traffic warrants.

Car burns after accident injures teen in Grundy County
Miss Roberta Bussey an 18 year old driver was injured in a one car crash on Williams Road near Nettle School Road in Grundy County. Her 1975 Oldsmobile burned after the collision and was destroyed. She was taken to Morris Hospital in fair condition by Robert Wahl. Deputy Paul Estensen reported the car slid in loose gravel struck a tree and caught fire. The Morris Fire Department responded.

Former Grundy County Clerk Nels P. Nelson, 74, of 442 West Jackson Street Morris, died at 5 a.m. Saturday at Presbyterian St Luke's Hospital Chicago where he had been a patient since May 3. Private funeral services set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Finland Chapel. Burial in Saratoga Cemetery. He served almost six terms in public office retiring in 1969. He was active in Bethlehem Lutheran Church and several civic groups. Survived by wife Mildred three sisters and one brother.

A young woman abducted Saturday in Manhattan Kansas was found safe Sunday near I 55 exit ramps southwest of Chicago. FBI and Illinois State Police said she likely escaped or was released. authorities did not identify the victim.

Ray Captured Near Tennessee Prison After 54 Hour Escape
James Earl Ray, killer of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., was captured while hiding under leaves in the Cumberland Mountains within 10 miles of Brushy Mountain State Prison. Donald Ray Caylor was arrested hours later in Oak Ridge, and authorities expected further arrests as the search continued for Donald Shelton. Ray and Caylor were returned to custody. Ray had fled Friday night using a pipe ladder to escape.

Two injured in I 80 two car collision near Channahon
At about 9 p m Saturday a two car crash on Interstate 80 near Channahon sent Diane McDonald 19 Marion Ind and Rosemary Keener 17 East Moline to St Joseph Hospital Joliet by Tri County Ambulance Service.
