Writ orders Grundy County tax valuations and collections
Circuit Court Judge Leonard Hoffman issued a mandamus directing county clerk Thomas Parks to determine fair cash values for all Grundy County property and set tax rates for each district. County Treasurer Pauline Coleman must collect 1972 taxes due in 1973. The suit, brought by Morris Grade School District 54 superintendent H. Dale Barr, cites looming school funding shortfalls and warrants. Parks blamed Will County delays for missing valuations and Joliet Junior College rates. Coleman needs clerk certification to bill. The judge stressed taxes fund government and warned delay endangers all taxing bodies.

Edison chairman Thomas Ayers told the New York Society of Security Analysts that nuclear units show better availability than coal plants and note no sulfur oxides emissions. He cites 1972 nuclear output at 23 percent, forecast near 30 percent, with 3,000 MW capacity making Edison a leading operator. He criticizes a suit seeking 20 nuclear plant shutdowns as unjustified.
