Illinois House Defeats Tax Proof Auto License Bill
The Illinois House rejected a measure requiring proof of personal property tax payment before motor vehicle license renewal. The bill fell eight votes short of the 89 needed, with opponents citing Cook County revenue issues and state enforcement concerns. The session also advanced a strip mine reclamation bill and a birth control services bill for minors, while defeating a model anti discrimination law and enacting a mediation board proposal.
