Two Migrants Survive Crash. One Remains Critical

One of two Big Wells migrants in a September truck crash near Dwight stayed in critical condition at St. James Hospital Pontiac. Ted Munroz was removed from critical status, while James Munroz remained critically ill. The 21 Mexican migrants rode in the truck when a rear tire blew on U S 66 near Illinois 47.

Three Fined For Contempt In Tax Cases In Grundy County

Associate Circuit Judge Ro bert W. Malmquist fined Earl McLain David Holcomb and Raymond Brooks ten dollars each for contempt for failing to appear on delinquent personal property tax citations. McLain owes 99.92 in taxes plus 39.00 costs Holcomb 89.29 in taxes plus 30.60 costs Brooks 84.84 in taxes plus 30.60 costs. Zimmer and Smith received continuances. The cases are part of a program by the state's attorney's office under Grundy County Board of Supervisors to collect delinquent taxes.

Reading Program Enrollment at Morris Public Library

Morris Public Library opens registration for the children's summer reading program. Librarian Mrs. Gordon Gregg says the program serves first through fourth graders. Six week sessions start June 6 with a requirement to read 12 books to earn a merit badge.

United Network drops Las Vegas TV show

The United Network said it dropped its televised night variety show from Las Vegas. The program starred Bill Dana and aired for the final time on Wednesday night, according to a network spokesman.

Two U S Helicopters Cross Atlantic Nonstop

Two Sikorsky HH3E rescue helicopters of the U S Air Force completed a nonstop 4270 mile Atlantic crossing in 30 hours 48 minutes flying from New York to Paris during the 27th Paris Air and Space Show. They were refueled nine times in the air by a C130 tanker and carried a five man crew each.

Truck Collision Damages Two Semi Trucks

A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near Illinois 47 involved a 1965 IHC semi driven by Rowlan L. Spears and a 1963 GMC driven by Russell A. Wetter. No injuries were reported. Spears’ truck jackknifed, left the roadway and was towed from the scene.
