Hearing extended on Joliet throat slash suspect case

Police find two bricks of marijuana in car
Three Farmington and Algonquin teens were jailed after a Grundy County stop yielded two bricks of marijuana and about 50 pills. Ronald Brooks 18 James Airola 18 and Thomas Harty 17 faced bail in Grundy County Circuit Court with details of the 1:35 a.m. traffic stop on Washington Street and the Joliet Crime Lab analysis order. Brooks was cited for improper lane use with an Aug. 8 appearance set.

Three Die In Navy Blue Angels Jet Crash At Lakehurst
Three airmen were killed and a fourth injured when two F4J Phantom jets from the Blue Angels collided near Lakehurst Naval Air Station New Jersey. The crash sparked brush fires as the team had flown from Pensacola to perform at a Saturday air show.

A $95,000 default judgment was entered by Associate Judge Robert Wren against Joseph Sikic owner of Old World Tap Joliet under the Dram Shop Act. Bowler 30 Joliet was involved in a fatal crash May 29 1972 near the Seneca overpass when his car drifted across the median into an eastbound vehicle driven by Troy Pierce 19 of Hallsboro N C. Passenger Vonnie Garringer 19 Williamsburg Iowa died in the wreck.

New Police Chief Appointed in Coal City
Charles F. Ingram, 27, a three year force veteran from Rte. 1 Diamond, becomes Coal City chief of police effective July 23. He previously served as a sergeant, is a Lockport Township High School graduate, attended Joliet Junior College, completed various law enforcement courses, and is married to Patricia with a 15 month old daughter, Michelle. Bowler received a one year sentence on January 4 at Vandalia State Farm after pleading guilty to reckless homicide.

Harmstrom Pleads Guilty in Theft Case at Mendota
Louis Harmston and Mendoza pleaded guilty Wednesday to misdemeanor theft reduced from burglary and felony theft. Harmston was sentenced to 11 months at Vandalia Penal Farm with a 30 day stay to settle affairs. Charges involve theft of a television and watch from the Golden Hawk Restaurant in Mendota Illinois. Investigated by LaSalle County Sheriff's Department. Paul R. Maenchow recommended the sentence. Alexander T. Bower served as Public Defender.

Dog Stolen From Rte 5 Residence
A two year old registered collie was reportedly stolen around midnight from the Robert Skelton home on Route 5. Skelton notified the sheriff at 7 15 a m reporting the theft and saying the dog was usually tied or penned and a gate was opened. The animal served as both pet and breeding stock.
