Japanese youths begin visit to Morris for monthlong stay
Two Tokyo youths Muneaki Iizuka and Toru Nishikawa arrive in Morris to live with local farm families for a 4 H and 4 H National Farmers Union exchange through the University of Illinois. They join 124 other Japanese participants in Illinois. They plan to attend the Grundy County state fair and visit Chicago before returning to Tokyo.

The Grundy County Sheriff’s Department reports a malfunctioning rail crossing gate on Ashley Rd at the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific line was damaged. At 7:30 p.m. the Morris City Council plans to discuss bids for operating the Morris Landfill on an hourly basis as a temporary measure while shifting operation to the county. Funeral services for Randall Thompson in Seneca
Funeral services were held today for Randall Thompson 30 of Seneca who died Friday at St. Francis Hospital Peoria from injuries suffered in a one car crash on Richards Rd near Streator. The LaSalle County Sheriff said his car crossed a private driveway and struck a culvert then a utility pole before stopping. Thompson was a Tri State Motor Transit dispatcher and is survived by parents two brothers and a sister. Burial was at Mt Hope Cemetery with several pallbearers.

Yorkville approves senior housing zoning variance request
Yorkville Zoning Board of Appeals voted 5 to 1 to back variances for Countryside Center to allow a 50 unit two story senior housing project on 3.2 acres. Intruder shot at White House during fence breach
A 30 year old man Chester M Plummer Jr climbed the north White House fence with a pipe and was shot by a Secret Service officer after refusing to halt. He died later at George Washington University Hospital. No motive indicated and President Ford was in residence.

Fire lights up four oil tanks near Harrisburg
Lightning sparked a spectacular blaze at the Charles Malone farm lease near Harco, burning four oil storage tanks and destroying about 200 barrels of oil. The fire, under Duke Resources Corp structure, sent flames about 35 feet high as crews battled the flames. No damage estimate was released.

Mobile home destroyed near Verona in fire
A fire near Verona destroyed an Itasca mobile home two weeks old valued at 19 560 dollars. James Fleishman reported seeing the blaze Friday afternoon and called the Seneca Fire Department which arrived and extinguished the fire on the roof of his house.

Chicago Man Drowns at Silver Springs State Park
A Chicago man, Vasilios Kazas, 26, drowned at about 2 30 p m Sunday while swimming in a restricted fishing lake at Silver Springs State Park south of Plano. He was 150 feet offshore and had been warned to get out. coroner Everett McKeown pronounced him dead at the scene. It was the county's second drowning of the year.

Rockford Woman Killed Near Rochelle In Weekend Crash
A Rockford woman, Audrey Adams, 49, died when her car crossed the centerline and hit a camper bus on U.S. 51 eight miles north of Rochelle. Bus driver Michael Bulett, 32, of Crosby Minnesota, was hospitalized in fair condition. His wife and three children were treated and released. Nancy Hanlon, 38, of Aurora, was treated then released after a crash at Illinois 47 and U.S. 34 in Kendall County. State police cited Hanlon for reckless driving amid the Saturday evening collision.
