Old House Demolished by Free Methodist Church in Morris
A two story brick home at 704 Armstrong St. once owned by the late Robert J. Delbridge and part of the Delbridge Livestock center was torn down by the Free Methodist Church after the congregation bought the property in 1958. Delbridge, a leading local livestock trader, lived there as a bachelor until his death in 1958. The house, about 125 to 130 years old, had a marble fireplace and mahogany bannister salvaged. The church built a new parsonage and a rededicated church on the site by late 1966. The piece recalls Delbridge’s cattle hogs and horses operations and stockyards nearby.

Commonwealth Edison announces Dresden 3, an 809000 kilowatt boiling water reactor, is now producing electricity for Chicago and northern Illinois. The Dresden complex already includes Dresden 2 and Dresden 1, with future nuclear and noncoal capacity planned at Quad Cities Zion LaSalle sites and other stages.

About 15,250 new telephone directories will be mailed to Morris area subscribers starting Saturday. The 127th annual Illinois Bell directory covers Morris, Coal City, Dwight, Gardner, Seneca and 11 other communities with emergency numbers and area codes. If not received by Aug. 3, contact business office at 942-9981. Last year 7.4 million directories were distributed statewide. Morris area deliveries totaled 14,672.

Trailer crashes on I 80 near Morris injures no one
An Iowa semi driven by John Krom 27 of Fort Madison fell asleep and left I 80 four miles west of Morris. The trailer hit an overpass, broke in half and was towed away. No debris blocked the road and Krom was cited for traveling too fast for conditions. The truck belonged to Hellman Trucking Co from Pilot Grove Iowa.
