Morris Grade School reports June 30 debt of 282000

Morris Grade School District 54 closed its 1976 fiscal year with an actual debt of 282,447.97 dollars. Superintendent H. Dale Barr noted the red balances in two funds and outlined plans for tax anticipation warrants and budget hearings.

County weighs county take over Morris landfill operation

Grundy County Board authorized health committee to study whether the county should take control of the Morris Landfill from the city. Disturbance at Dwight Correctional Center Ends Quietly

Twenty one of thirty nine female residents in an eight room cottage refused to stay in their rooms Monday night. Guards used tear gas to quell bottle and chair throwing as inmates were driven back to their rooms by staff with state and local police on standby. Damage was slight and officials pledged an investigation and future disciplinary action.

Jury rules car caused girl's death in Kendall inquest

A Kendall County coroner's jury found that Bettina Hall died from a fractured neck and internal injuries when struck by Martin R. Kermeen's car in Plano. Kermeen, charged with reckless homicide, faced details of the July incident as witnesses described skid marks, a plunge down a slope, and escape paths of Hall and friends before the car left the road. The inquest at Yorkville courthouse concluded with the case set for court action.

Ruling does not affect bromine accident hearing

Rules youth death ruled accidental in Yorkville

The Kendall County coroner ruled Jeffrey C. Blackford a 20 year old from Yorkville died in an accident on River Road when his car left the highway at high speed. The vehicle rolled, the roof came off, and Blackford was found dead alone in the car.

New Owners Take Over Drake's Farm Restaurant

Al and Mary Lou Cookas, longtime restaurant owners from Juliet, assumed operation of Drake's Farm Restaurant five miles east of Morrison on July 1. They plan gradual remodeling and menu changes toward Greek dishes while maintaining lunch service from 11 a.m. and dinners most nights. The couple live in Grundy County and Drake's celebrated its third anniversary this June, with seating for up to 325 and about 45 staff.

Two Hurt In Illinois Truck Crash On Interstate 80

Robert Smith 33 of Lake Hansa City Arizona and Larry Beanton 29 of Springfield Ohio were treated at Morris Hospital and released after a refrigerated semi veered onto the shoulder west of Illinois 47. Ritz hotel founder Charles Ritz dies in Paris

Charles Ritz 84 creator of the Ritz hotel chain died Sunday in the Ritz Paris on Place Vendome. He inherited the first Ritz Hotel from Cesar Ritz and will be buried Friday in a private service. Monique Ritz will continue management of the chain.

Continue Banaszak hearing in Kendall County court

A preliminary hearing for Bruce Banaszak 33 of Plattville was moved to 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday July 27. He faces three counts of attempted murder over the June 14 shooting at his home. Public Defender Max Peterson 37 of Yorkville was shot and remains at St Joseph Hospital Joliet. The case has been postponed twice for Peterson to appear. Attorney John E. Minooka approves Bonita Vista waste water plant design

Minooka Village Board approves engineer design for a Bonita Vista Subdivision waste water plant serving about 100 homes with an estimated population of 400. The village will own and operate it. adopts the National Electrical Code and state plumbing code with fines from 50 to 100 dollars daily.
