Larsen retires as Dresden Island lockmaster after 33 years
Clifford O. Larsen, the fifth lockmaster at Dresden Island Lock and Dam, retires after 33 years with the United States Army Corps of Engineers. A Morris resident, he joined in 1939 and witnessed river traffic grow from 2.5 million to 25 million tons annually, with chemicals and fuel now major cargo. He and wife Florence live at 534 West Ave and have four married children. A successor may be named in about a month.

IRS seeks over half a million tax from festival promoter
The Internal Revenue Service has drawn up papers seeking more than a half million dollars in taxes from Hershel Tucker, organizer of the on again off again rock festival held July 4 near Streator.
