Nixon plans Watergate comment after Senate probe

Circuit Judge Robert Malmquist set bail at 50 000 for Ronald B. Gosser 22 of Joliet in the Morris Holiday Inn armed robbery. Gosser arrested at home after warrant. judge appointed attorney if needed and bound over to grand jury. Jessie Lopez 23 held for grand jury on same incident with 50 000 bail. Morris district weighs Heifner dismissal after six hours of testimony
The Morris Community High School Board reviewed whether Judy Heifner a physical education teacher should be fired for not meeting the districts six year master degree growth policy after hearing six hours of testimony. Attorneys Hynds Hayes argued the policy requires a master degree for teachers hired after April 1 1965. Robert Deffenbaugh contended Heifner was unaware that failure to complete the requirement could lead to dismissal. Witnesses including Claude Rose former superintendent and Harold Sutter explained policy origins and interpretations. Further discussion addressed whether salaries could be frozen for noncompliance and whether Heifner had been clearly informed of the policy.

Coincidental siren test amid Morris thunderstorm in Illinois
Grundy County Civil Defense Director Joe Temple called the regular first Tuesday siren test during a thunderstorm coincidental. At about 10 a.m. dark skies west of Morris moved over the city as heavy rain fell for about 20 minutes and temperatures dropped into the upper 60s. Temple noted severe thunderstorm warnings for the northeast Illinois area but said the clouds appeared worse than the weather. The first Tuesday test is a state standard.

Morris Post Office to run limited July Fourth schedule
Morris Postmaster William V. Martin announced no city or rural mail on the Fourth of July except within city limits. The post office will open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for lockboxes, mail drops, and stamp vending. Holiday mail arrives at 8:45 a.m. and lockbox distribution begins after 11:30 a.m. Outgoing mail leaves at 12:30 p.m.
