Indict Aurora mother for abandoning seven children

Martha Barrientos 28 faces a seven count indictment in Kane County for child abandonment after seven youngsters 10 months to 8 years old were found in a filthy East Side Aurora house with no heat and malnourished. Four children in foster care. three hospitalized at Copely Memorial Hospital. Public authorities said fathers were in Texas. Barrientos arraignment set in Geneva. The case carries a potential sentence of 1 to 3 years and up to 5000 dollars in fines.

Channahon Woman 96 Dies After Long Illness

Mrs. Agnes McNellis of Channahon aged 96 died Wednesday at her home after a long illness. Funeral services set for Saturday at Immaculate Conception Church with burial in Mt Calvary Cemetery Seneca. Survived by two daughters, three sons, two sisters and several grandchildren.

Kennedy priest Oscar Huber to be buried in Perryville

Funeral services are set for Friday for Rev. Oscar L. Huber who administered the last rites to President John F. Kennedy in Dallas. Huber died at 81 after retiring to St. Marys seminary in Perryville. He served at Holy Trinity Church in Dallas on the day of Kennedy's assassination.

Grundy County Plans Update To Two Year Comprehensive Study

The Grundy County Regional Planning Commission recommended updating the county's 1967 comprehensive plan with a two year effort costing 26000 dollars. Consultant Ted Trayser said the plan would include impact reports guiding future land use decisions, with policies and goals to keep ahead of residential and industrial changes. The proposal will be presented to the Grundy County Board on February 11.

Fire kills six children in Reading home blaze

A suspicious early morning fire in Reading, Pennsylvania, killed six children and injured eight others, with three more victims found on the second floor. The Millisock family dominated the casualties as relatives were treated at St. Joseph's and Community General Hospitals, while a grandmother was held for observation.

Vernon Clausel held in Will County armed robbery case

Vernon Clausel 21 of Morris was held in Will County Jail on 50 000 bond after being charged with armed robbery in circuit court. Miss Jane Wiscum 20 Joliet was held with no charges filed yet. They were arrested in Morris on a warrant. Clausel linked to the Dennis Lee Illinois 53 Naperville robbery. Will County seeks three unidentified suspects.

Swarm of quakes rocks Southern California

A sequence of earthquakes from 3.7 to 4.3 magnitude roused California residents with a 4:30 a.m. start. Caltech reported the events near Brawley and Santa Monica Malibu, with two broken storefront windows but no major damage noted.
