Former Pontiac Resident Dies in Maryland
Ethna Belle Thorne 99 a native of Pontiac Illinois taught in Nebraska and South Dakota Indian schools in the early 1900s. She died Saturday in a nursing home and funeral services are set for Wednesday. As a child she traveled with her parents in a covered wagon from Illinois to Nebraska. In 1898 she married a Valentine Nebraska school teacher. The Thernes later moved to South Dakota and taught at an Indian reservation for seven years before relocating to Princess Anne Maryland in 1917.
