Vibrant 95th birthday marked by lifelong Seneca native
Mrs. William P. DeVaney of 417 West Jefferson Street observes her 95th birthday. She recalls born in 1881 near Seneca, raised in Grundy County, married William DeVaney in 1901 and later lived in Ottawa Dubuque Chicago and Morris. She remains active with family, Mass, and community. A UPI note reports a high school student died after a filming accident in Alton, Illinois.

Mrs Arlette Larson Hornsby 72 wife of Hornsby stores founder died at home after a long illness in Morris. Funeral at Bethlehem Lutheran Church Tuesday at 10 30 conducted by Rev Norval Wigtil. Burial Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation today 3 5 and 7 9 p m at church Fireside Room. She had nursing training and was active in church circles. Survived by husband two daughters a son ten grandchildren and siblings. Second note Alderman Donald Barkley in guarded condition at Morris Hospital after cardiac concerns.

Two inmates from Putnam County Ohio jail were arrested Sunday at 3 p.m. by Kendall County Sheriff's deputies. Sgt. John Taylor of the sheriff's office led the operation.

Two Hundred Years Bicentennial Film at Morris Dinner
A slide and tape program titled Two Hundred Years on the American Revolution Bicentennial will be shown at the Grundy County Soil and Water Conservation District annual dinner at 6 30 p.m. Thursday in the United Methodist Church of Morris. Public Information Officer Robert E. Craft will present with Robert D. Walker. Craft, a native of Iowa and Urbana graduate, has served as Soil Conservationist and Resource Conservationist in Chicago. The meeting includes a roast beef dinner at 6 30 p.m. and election of three directors for two years.

Ice covers roads and walks in Grundy County
Freezing rain Saturday left treacherous roads and sidewalks across Grundy County and nearby areas. The Grundy County Sheriff's Department logged four weather related county road accidents with vehicles sliding on ice and several cars slipping into ditches. No injuries were reported. State police logged 31 accidents on Saturday night from 4 p.m. to midnight in District 5, totaling 40 incidents. Deputies aided two ambulances for ice falls, including Debra Erickson of Mazon Township and Judy Rose of Carbon Hill, with Rose later not confirmed treated at Morris Hospital. Sidewalks remained slick but warmer temps and salt eased conditions.

Grundy County Board plans to raise licenses from eight to nine at 9 30 p m Tuesday in the Grundy County Courthouse with the Goose Lake Club slated to receive the new license. Also on the agenda are a trustee appointment for Coal City Fire Protection District a report on printing County Board minutes and a resolution opposing small town post office closings.
