Grundy County property assessments rise by 22 million

Grundy County total assessments jumped to 276,368,380 in 1972 from 254,257,160 in 1971, an about 8.5 percent increase driven by a shift of machinery and equipment from personal property to real estate as the state extends real property listings by 1979. APSA Relocation Prompts $25.6 Million Area Payroll Loss

Joliet Army Ammunition Plant spokesman Ralph Shupe says the consolidation of APSA and the Army Munitions Command will push area payroll losses above 25.6 million as 2000 Joliet civil servants face transfers to Rock Island. Inmate guard attacker identified at Stateville prison

Will County grand jury indicts man for New Year’s Eve Joliet murder

Will County grand jury indicts Joseph Wright, 22, for murder in the death of Felipe Guitterez, 28, following a dispute over a minor traffic mishap on a Joliet street New Year’s Eve. Also indicted was Ralph Bell, 19, for attempted murder and armed robbery in a Joliet private club holdup and gunfight, during which police killed Joseph Harber, 30, of Elgin.
