Trucker killed on U S 51 near Mendota
Melvin Morey 33 of Belvidere died when his semi crossed the center line on U S 51 north of Mendota at 5 40 a m. The truck sideswiped a car driven by Joan Koskosky 18 of Compton then left the road, hit a tree and pinned Morey in the wreck. Coroner Marion Osborne ordered an autopsy.

Pedestrian killed on Joliet Road near Bolingbrook
A 5:05 a.m. collision on Joliet Road north of Devey Road in Bolingbrook left a pedestrian dead. Clarence Allison of Lockport, driving north at 55, struck the pedestrian who was in the passing lane. the victim’s name was not released. The car was found 300 feet north of Davey Road in a snow bank and the victim pronounced dead at the scene.

Superintendent backs wood heaters for Fanshawe school
