Cape Kennedy Florida AP The successful unmanned Apollo moonship launch strengthens hopes for a crewed Earth orbit flight later this year and a lunar mission within two to three years. The Saturn 1B carried the Apollo capsule 310 miles into space and returned safely to the Atlantic Ocean after a 39 minute test. The capsule separated and deployed three parachutes before being picked up by the Boxer carrier for transport to port.

Fog Envelops Grundy County Then Clears With Cooler Air
A heavy fog shrouded Grundy County most of today with a chance of light rain and snow lasting into the night. Tuesday promises sunny skies and a high in the upper 40s, with Wednesday cloudy but mild. Collins Weather Station reported 41 degrees for both Saturday and Sunday highs, 24 and 33 degree lows, and 35 degrees at 9 a.m. today.

Gemini 9 Crew Killed in St Louis Plane Crash
Astronauts Elliot M. Lee Jr. and Charles A. Bassett II, named primary crew for Gemini 9, died in a McDonnell Aircraft crash near St. Louis. Vatican sources say about 10 000 Roman Catholic priests have asked to be released from their vows in the past decade mainly due to celibacy issues.
