Coal City 29 year old Robert Lindieski admitted firing two shotgun blasts into James Stewart’s walnut street home at 4 30 am Sunday. He was charged with disorderly conduct shooting within city limits and property damage and released to appear before Police Magistrate Glen Allan.

A Morris primary shows 1,199 ballots cast by 1 p.m. across four wards, including 1,189 Republican and 10 Democratic ballots. No Democratic contests. Four years ago at this hour 895 ballots were cast amid a three candidate mayoral race. Ward tallies were 207, 288, 440, and 264.
Forecasters predicted snow or freezing rain in Grundy County but sunshine prevailed. Temperatures neared 40 during the day with a 9 am reading of 35 and a Monday high around 43. Tonight should be partly cloudy with a low near 30 and cold to mild conditions into Thursday.
Former Governor William G. Stratton in Springfield says he has no present plans to run for office and will consider future options after summer or fall. The 47 year old, now farmer near Morris, plans to divide time between his 500 acre farm and the family home while weighing offers in business and writing.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports a 0.1 percent drop in the consumer price index for January, the first decline in a year, driven by lower prices for clothing used cars eggs milk and fresh produce. The index eased to 127.4 from 127.5 in December, though prices averaged 1.6 percent higher than January 1960.
The prosecution finished cross examining Chester Weger who insists his confession to a triple murder was dictated by La Salle County deputy William Dummett. Weger says the quote from a victim was read to him and that he was coerced into confessing to killing three Chicago area matrons in Starr Rock State Park last March 14. He repeats he never killed anyone and says Dummett recited what the victims were supposed to have said.
Mrs. George Reagan accepted title for a small panel truck donated to Grundy county Civil Defense. Jack Griffin presented the vehicle, to be painted white with Civil Defense emblems and equipped with a generator and two way radio system for emergency communications.
