The Morris community recalls Center School’s public room opened with the 1924 building. A marble fireplace now serves Ed Harris’s special education classes with occasional fires for hamburgers. Prisoners Art Exhibited At National Prison Show
Thousands of inmates across the United States are turning to art and some works were chosen for the second national prison art exhibition held with a three day conference on correctional authors and artists. Prizes totaling 1000 dollars were awarded for 340 pieces from 16 institutions in 13 states with top prize 150 dollars to Roscoe Hall an inmate at Maryland Penitentiary Baltimore for three drawings. Kenneth D. Lemay of Stateville Penitentiary won third prize 75 dollars. Proceeds from sales go to the prisoners. Prize money was donated by Gertrude Enlow a Chicago author and volunteer program director at an Illinois women's prison. States represented include Illinois Indiana and Kentucky.
