Gardner residents approved a local educational tax increase by 36 votes 371 for 335 against from 706 total ballots. Superintendent Brandt noted turnout rose 94 from April, with final counts unlikely to change after canvass. Funds will flow June 1971 and November 1971 with possible cost-saving moves cited.
A 14 year old foster son Keith Sapsford ran away from Boys Town to see the world and fell 200 feet from the wheel housing of a Japan Airlines jetliner in Sydney. Police believe he hid in the wheel housing before takeoff and died when the door opened. Airline officials warned he would have died soon after takeoff regardless.
In San Francisco a two year old boy named Lanny Ross dangled outside an elevator cage fifty feet above the shaft. Two tenants Curtis LeCompte and Saladin Akbar held the boy by their fingers through the grillwork as firemen rescued him. Lt Andrew Smail descended into the shaft to lift the child to safety. The mother said the boy did not cry and later received treatment for a head gash.
Temperatures tonight remain mild with a low near 30. Tuesday will be mostly cloudy and near the lower 40s. Saturday at Collins Weather Station peaked at 43 and 33, Sunday reached 46 and 25, while Morris downtown hit 37 at 9 am and 42 at 11:30 am.

Henry T. Verfurth former Morris postmaster aged 65 died early Saturday at Morris Hospital. He served 33 years at the Morris Post Office retiring as postmaster in 1967. Burial at Evergreen Cemetery followed services at Davis Funeral Home. Memorials to Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness.
A fire at the Warren Hotel on 4546 N Racine Ave Chicago injures nine people early today none seriously. Two injured are firefighters admitted to hospital along with two other victims. six others treated and released. Damage estimated at 50000 with unknown cause.

The Grundy County coroner relocates from the basement to the second floor near the public health offices for more space ventilation and better conditions. Records dating to 1897 moved earlier in 1967. coroner W Clark Davis serves 24 hours. Mrs. Oscar W Larson has served as coroner's secretary for about 15 years.
