Can't File Objection to JP Caucus

Grundy County State's Attorney August B. Black received a reply from the Attorney General stating that an objection to a caucus nomination for justice of the peace cannot be filed. The AG found no statute authorizing objections to caucus noms, leaving elections governed entirely by statute. The objection to Dean Savage's GOP nomination in District 1 for the April 4 election was dismissed by the Grundy County Electoral Board for lack of authority.

Camera Evidence Plays Role in Weger Murder Trial

Criminologist Dr. Edgar W. Kviela testified a camera sent from La Salle County showed damage from at least three blows. The device weighed 2.1 pounds and had a caved back, found near the victims at Starved Rock State Park. Also reviewed were bloodstained gloves boots a battered binoculars and a fringed leather jacket suggesting repeated blows. FBI agent P Rene Bider noted the jacket’s leather hiding blood traces and the trial continued in La Salle County Circuit Court.

Blood drive in Coal City Methodist church draws 27 pints

Twenty people walked in and twelve with appointments donated 27 pints to the Grundy County Red Cross Monday as a bloodmobile operated at Coal City Methodist church. The county’s February quota is 68 pints, with 52 pints still needed.

Gardner youth gets two years probation for reckless driving

County Judge Robert Malmquist placed Ronald R. Gardner of Gardner on two years probation and fined him $100 after mitigating and aggravating evidence in county court. The 20-year-old pleaded guilty to reckless driving in a 1959 collision.

Beckwith Re-Elected President Of Morris Hospital Board

Morris Hospital directors re elected Robert H. Beckwith as president at a Monday night meeting. Robert Trotter joined the board, replacing William E. Allan. Officers named include S. J. Holderman as vice president William I. Hynds as secretary and W. G. Penn as treasurer. Dee Elsome reported a new bookkeeping machine to start April 1 and the board approved a maintenance contract with General Electric Co for x ray equipment.

Hexdall Succeeds Louis Piano As Highway Chief

Hans A. Hexdall of 1302 Lisbon Street steps down after 16 years as district superintendent of the Division of Highways. Louis Piano of Coal City, county chairman of the Democratic Central Committee, succeeds him. Hexdall served eight years under Gov Green and eight years under Gov Stratton and will operate a bicycle shop on West Washington Street after a vacation.

Grainger the World-Famed Pianist Dies at 78

Perc y Grainger world famous pianist and composer died in White Plains hospital at age 78. The Melbourne born musician was known for English folk tune arrangements like Country Gardens Molly on the Shore and Handel in the Strand. He lived in semi retirement in White Plains and once married Ella Stroem in 1928 before a crowd of 22 000 at the Hollywood Bowl.

Victim of Plane Crash Known Here

Robert W. Danforth, 38, of Monmouth, pilot of a crop dusting plane, died after a takeoff crash near Viola. Danforth, a Morris aviation figure and former flying instructor, ran a crop dusting business and exhibited at Farm Progress Show near Minooka. The Cub destroyed, he died at Mercy hospital in Davenport, Iowa.
