A six week Chinese tour highlights the Chili Yin commune 80 miles north of Chienzhow, showcasing state ownership from houses to mills. It operates 228 public canteens 135 nurseries 130 kindergartens two middle schools and 36 socialist technical schools with extensive rural hospitals and 146 practice teams.
Miss Dee Elsome, hospital administrator, announces Morris Hospital’s 1958 year as outstanding due to building and remodeling. Despite bed reductions, admissions rose to 1,997 with 426 births, and the project added a new kitchen, maternity area, larger ER and X ray, expanded lab, elevator, and new parking. The completed plan plans 47 beds and 14 bassinets with improved access and an ambulance reentry.

The four year conflict in Cyprus ends as Britain, Turkey, and Greece sign a pact to establish Cyprus as an independent state with joint Greek and Turkish leadership while Britain retains base rights. A Chicago trial acquitted 19 year old teen escapee Emily Shouse of robbing a woman in a cleaning shop. Juror Marjorie Hollander handed two questions to the judge about height and shoes aiding the verdict. Shouse had escaped Dwight Women’s Prison in 1958 and was recaptured in Chicago later that year.
Morris scouts from three troops and one Explorer post spent part of the afternoon filling city county and federal offices. A chicken dinner banquet followed at Morris Community High School with Eagle Scout Don Hammer honored and officers reporting on their duties.
State troopers and sheriff's deputies were deployed at Star Union Products and Star Bottling Co in Peru Ill after nine cars carrying 37 men crossed United Mine Workers picket lines. The group, from Local 65 of the Teamsters in St Louis, attempted to load beer but left after the driver refused to drive through the lines. No violence or arrests occurred.

The reductions lower potential producer value by over 500 million dollars and shift market prices while corn maintenance at 1.12 a bushel with no acreage allotments limits expected impact.
Mrs Allan Helland of Nettle Creek township was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon with injuries from a car crash. She has a fractured pelvis, fractured ankle, chest and jaw injuries. Her five year old son Mark James had a facial laceration needing a stitch and was not hospitalized. The wreck occurred when her car struck a concrete culvert on a gravel road about 20 miles west of Lisbone. She was brought to Morris hospital by the Davis ambulance.
