Winter storm warnings and frigid temps sweep northern US

Cargo plane swerves to avoid Delta jet at O Hare
At O Hare International Airport a Boeing 747 cargo plane swerved off the runway to avoid a Delta 727 crossing its path. The cargo aircraft, arriving from Seattle, ended up 150 feet off the runway in snow. All six aboard the cargo plane were uninjured. The Delta flight No 349 bound for Orlando was not delayed.

Wilmington woman killed in accident near Joliet
A 19 year old Wilmington woman, en route to work at the Braidwood nuclear plant, died in a three vehicle crash on Illinois 53 two miles south of Illinois 113. Gerald Urban Sr. of Braceville was injured and is in fair condition at St Joseph Hospital Joliet. Edward Rylko of Romeoville struck the Van Duyne car. Roberta Sargeant was riding in Urban’s truck and was uninjured. Funeral services for Mrs Van Duyne will be at St Rose Church Wilmington with burial at Mt Olivet Cemetery. She was born May 10 1959 and a 1977 graduate of Wilmington High School.

Public hearings on a rezoning petition and a proposed Planned Unit Development were canceled for the third time Thursday night due to weather. The Morris Planning Commission had planned the meeting at the Morris Public Library.
