The AP correspondent Ben Bassett visits Brazil as part of a four nation pre tour guide. Americans know little about Brazil and the article previews what to expect in a presidential visit. The series will continue with Argentina Chile and Uruguay.
President Eisenhower will tour four South American nations starting next week, visiting Rio de Janeiro and Brasilia in Brazil. Brasilia, begun in 1956 by Juscelino Kubitschek, is a planned city rising from scrubland 600 miles northwest of Rio with a half million future population and a climate ranging from 35 to 75 degrees.
The Grundy county Young Democrats met at Democratic party headquarters in Coal City. Robert Hill of Coal City was elected third vice president. Eighty members attended as George Ellis of Aurora spoke on Kane county campaign management and Dorothy O'Brien was announced for Congress. Plans for Symington dinner and voter registration were outlined along with efforts to counter new county office closing hours.
The Argentine navy insists it continues to hunt a submarine in the 18 by 40 mile Golfo Nuevo off the south coast. With no capture, public speculation runs from a Soviet scout to a U S defense bluff, a smuggling craft, or even Nazi fugitives.
In Washington a Southern Democrat blocked a move to force the Senate Judiciary Committee to report seven point civil rights legislation. Sen Olin D Johnston objected that the motion was out of order since the committee lacked permission to sit during the Senate session. The objection was sustained by committee chair James O Eastland. Meanwhile the House Rules Committee opened hearings on a mild civil rights bill as Rep William M Tuck asserted 100000 Virginians were qualified to vote and that no effort was made to prevent them from voting. Senators Javits and Douglas announced an omnibus plan adding voting registrar and referee provisions and AG intervention powers without a House passed bill. Senator Johnson steered the issue before the Senate.
Morris Community High School hosts its seventh annual College and Career program inviting seniors and juniors from six neighboring districts. About 575 students will attend a morning assembly before touring conferences on educational and vocational topics with guidance from counselors and local professionals. Twenty six colleges and six hospitals will participate, offering courses and guidance in fields from aviation to nursing.
NBC announces Jack Paar will return to the Jack Paar Show on Monday March 7 after a three week hiatus. NBC President Robert Kintner and Bob Sarnoff say Paar will resume four shows a week with repeats on the fifth night if needed.
In Duncan Oklahoma Ray Liles 10 has broken his leg four times, most recently jumping rope at school. His mother says there is nothing wrong with him except high energy.
Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip prepared as doctors from Lord Evans to Dr Peel examined the monarch for a likely imminent birth. A palace spokesman said she would remain nearby, with the birth planned in the Belgian suite under nurse Sister Helen Rowe’s watch.

President Eisenhower urged Congress to approve 4 175 000 000 in new foreign aid to combat Communist imperialism. The plan would allocate two billion for weapons aid to allies and 2 175 000 000 for economic and technical assistance, tying the request to the recent goodwill tour and the aim to keep the free world in the vanguard of liberty while countering Soviet and Chinese power.
SPRINGFIELD Ill. A new law sets up justice of the peace districts excluding cities with police magistrates from county population counts. Counties will be divided into three to five districts with one to five justices each. Primary for JPs is Feb 14 1961. petitions due Nov 21-28 this year.
