Largest world’s cherry pie on display in Freehold
A 584 pound 10 foot wide cherry pie is on display in Freehold New Jersey to mark George Washington's Birthday. The pie was made for local merchants who rejected the usual Washington's Birthday sale and the pie reportedly surpasses Guinness records. It is divided into 16 slices each six pounds of dough and 30 pounds of cherries.

A Thursday fire at the Donico Co. 123 W Illinois Ave Morris caused an estimated 120000 in damage. The blaze began in the basement where restaurant equipment and china were stored and spread through downtown Morris. Firefighters from Morris and Coal City battled dense smoke for hours.

Two Dead in South Shore Drive Apartment Slaying
In Chicago a man identified as James Brooks 24 and woman Barbara Regan 23 were shot to death in a South Shore Drive apartment. Brooks was found tied by a cord and shot three times in the back. Regan was shot five times in the chest and once in the jaw. Police found a gun on a fifth floor stairwell landing and noted an open door with a blood trail suggesting the assailant may have been injured.

Wholesale prices unchanged in January as food costs fall
