Fire guts house near Joliet yacht club in Grundy County
A house near the Joliet Yacht Club at the Grundy Will county line was gutted by fire Wednesday at 2 55 p m. No injuries were reported. Fire departments from Coal City and Wilmington helped extinguish the blaze. Sheriff Sgt Tim Neary said furniture damage reached 2000 with house damage undetermined. The owner is Mrs John Markelz of Joliet renting to James Keenan 23. Keenan heard a shake then a power outage before finding a basement fire caused by a gas leak from pipes repaired that morning. He lacked insurance to cover the damaged furniture.

Bird Air of Oakland connected to Bird & Sons Co gains five additional C130 planes from the Pentagon to boost Cambodian relief flights to Phnom Penh. The operation now runs about 20 supply flights daily carrying food ammunition and medical aid under a reported 3.3 million dollar agreement.

Minooka Man Injured In I 55 One Car Crash
Richard Block 39 of Minooka treated and released from St Joseph Hospital after a one car crash on Interstate 55 near I 80 at 1 55 pm. Block driving south veered off road his 1966 Pontiac rolled over and was towed from the scene. He was ticketed for improper lane usage.

The Will County Department of Highways said the Will Grundy County Line Bridge over the Kankakee River will be closed for total reconstruction on or after March 10 and out of service for about 15 months. Eight injured in Peoria Howard Johnson motel fire
A fire at the Howard Johnson motor lodge in Peoria injured eight people, one critically, with most victims being guests attending Caterpillar Tractor Co symposium and heavy equipment expo in Chicago.
