Seven County Wrecks Injure Two Over Weekend
Grundy County deputies investigated seven weekend crashes injuring two people. Brenda Miedl, 21, was treated after a collision at Coal City and Whitetie Roads when her car pulled in front of a westbound vehicle driven by David Togliatti, 38. A separate Braceville Road crash injured John Cushing, 21, with damage to Cushing and Mehochko vehicles. A Morris man, Randy Murphy, 22, was unharmed after a train collision on Weitz Road. A gate at Northern Petrochemical property was damaged when Wesley Cook Jr. slid on ice and struck it. Slippery roads caused six cars in ditches Sunday and three more today.

NIU probe into misappropriated student fees sparks inquiry

Youth charged in LaSalle fatality
A 16 year old Peru youth was charged with leaving the scene after his car struck and killed Russell Walker 53 of LaSalle at Third and Joliet Streets. Two others hit by the car were injured while Mrs Loretta Walker 40 and Bradley Lamboley 16 remained hospitalized. Coroner Marion Osborne said Randall Freschi 16 of Peru apparently panicked and fled the scene before later being taken into custody. The victim’s body was sent to Burgess Funeral Home and an inquest will be scheduled. It was LaSalle County’s first traffic fatality of the year.

At 4 am Sunday a car driven by Catherine A Holloman 4 Bluff Rd Marseilles was struck by a semi on Interstate 80 near Seneca exit. Passenger George Bicance Presidential Hotel was injured but refused treatment. Holloman in good condition at Ottawa Community Hospital. Kenneth W Eschman 24 Massillon Ohio driver of the semi not injured. Damage to Eschman’s truck about 2000 dollars. The Holloman car and Eschman’s truck, totaling about 2800 dollars, towed from scene.

In St. Anne Illinois a mobile home fire killed 6yearold Shelia Hogan of Kankakee County Coroner Wes Wiseman said her grandmother Mary Jefferson woke to smoke and evacuated the other five occupants Hogan reentered to retrieve clothes and did not escape the blaze Sunday.
