The American-registered 473-foot Exminister with 46 crew members was taking on water 18 miles southeast of Nantucket in 17-foot seas. Coast Guard pumps were deployed as two aircraft circled the scene. the tug was to tow the ship to Bermuda, pending unknown turbine failure details.

Hijack of San Juan to Cuba Flight Shocks Miami

A San Juan to Miami DC8 with 119 aboard was hijacked to Havana after a crew member warned of a gun on a stewardess. Captain William Latimer steered the jet 350 miles northwest toward Havana arriving at 11 07 a m local time.

Sentence Man To Vandalia On 4 Charges

A 36 year old Morris man David Carver was sentenced to one year in the Illinois State Farm at Vandalia and fined 110 dollars plus 30 dollars costs in magistrate court. He faced charges of leaving the scene of an accident improper use of registration driving with a revoked license and under the influence of liquor. The judge noted the illness and need for treatment and said the hospital at Vandalia's farm could provide care.

Low Paint Bid Accepted for Grundy County Courthouse Floor

Grundy County Board of Supervisors courthouse and jail committee approved a low bid of 1749 from Davis Paint Service to paint the first floor. Acting chairman Earl Bingham said three other bids were received: Ray Frederick 2984 Clifford Fosen 1949 and Kenneth Shannon 2024.

The forecast for tonight is mostly cloudy and warmer with a low in the lower 30s. Tuesday and Wednesday bring a mix of sun and fair skies with temperatures in the mid to upper 30s and little change. Collins Weather Station reports Saturday high 36 and low 27, Sunday 35/25. At 9 am today the station read 31 degrees and downtown Morris reported 35 at 11 am.

Three Hospitalized In Chillicothe Derailment

Three persons remained hospitalized after a California bound Santa Fe passenger train derailed west of Chillicothe Illinois. Fourteen others were treated and released. The eight unit train carried 78 passengers and a crew of 10 from Chicago to Los Angeles.

Car crashes into bedroom injuring three near Ridgecrest

At 1 20 a m a westbound 1961 Chevrolet driven by Raymond Lily 23 Joliet ran off U S 6 at Ridge Crest subdivision and through a wall into a bedroom. Treated and released were Mr and Mrs Jack Santa Cruz owners of the house. Lily admitted to Morris Hospital later discharged. Deputy Hendrickson cited Lily for reckless driving DWI and illegal liquor transport. Car traveled about 550 feet through three lots then into a fourth lot striking the Cruz home. Gasoline leaked onto the bedroom floor. Victims removed by Davis ambulance. Auto declared total loss. Lily to appear in magistrate court at 10 a m Feb 27.

Bank officials in Kankakee Illinois report that six counterfeit notes were received last week by the Kankakee National Bank. The fake money includes five twenty dollar bills and one ten dollar bill said Jerry Allain assistant vice president.

Bomb Threat Delays Sit-In at University of Chicago

In Chicago the eleventh day of a student sit-in at the university administration building ended when a bomb timer was found in a third floor file cabinet. Power Outage in Crystal Lake Due to Car Crash

A Commonwealth Edison spokesman said a Sunday night blackout affected Crystal Lake and surrounding areas for about an hour. The outage was caused by an automobile accident that knocked over a utility pole and feeder line serving the area.
