One Bus Serves 1200 Marseilles Students In Illinois

The Marseilles Unit District No 55 operates a single 54 passenger bus leased from Warland Bus Service to shuttle high school students to the Area Vocational Center in LaSalle. Most students walk or carpool as the district, non-wealthy and state aided, has no regular bus service beyond extracurricular trips.

Medical arts building plans face zoning appeals panel

After a two hour hearing the Morris Zoning Board of Appeals approved five motions on a proposed four story medical arts building on Waverly Street between Lisbon and Liberty Streets. The actions include plotting two optioned lots for a parking facility review, designating loading zones and exits, and routing final approval to the City Council before permits. The project expects 145 parking spaces though some board members questioned the total.

Minooka Board Approves Joint April School Election Plan

Discussion at the Minooka Board covered warrants, tax treasurer concerns on interest, and borrowing. The board approved holding the April school election jointly with Joliet Junior College and allowed the Minooka Grade School to use the high school track if schedules permit.

Florida prison system closes to new inmates again

Tallahassee Florida prison director Louie Wainwright says about 550 inmates have no bed space and closes the system to new arrivals for the second time in just over a year. He notified all 67 sheriffs that the Lake Butler Reception facility cannot accept more prisoners at this time.

Morris Country Club elects new officers at annual meeting

Walter R. Carpenter was named president of Morris Country Club at the Monday night gathering. Willard S. Sheedy Jr. became vice president, H. James Baum treasurer, and Circuit Judge Robert W. New Florida Prison Delayed Amid Inmate Surge Near Cape Kennedy

Emmett Roberts, secretary of the department, said a new 600 bed prison near Cape Kennedy would not be finished for two years as the state searches for inmate housing. With population at an all time high and 200 more waiting in county jails, the system cannot take more now. About 200 prisoners await admission to the state system. The Lake Butler center, 40 miles southwest of Jacksonville, was the site last month of a food boycott by prisoners over crowding.

Jury indicts four for murder in Pine Village killings

Kendall County Grand Jury indicted Carl Reimann 31 of Sandwich Betty Piche 30 of Somonauk for five counts of murder and one each of armed robbery and theft in the Pine Village Steak House slayings near Yorkville on December 29 Arraignments set for February 14 and February 16 for the other two defendants David Morris 24 of Aurora and Homer Couch 21 of Aurora They allegedly beat Donald Kirklin 36 at the Arlington Hotel in Aurora then Kirklin was found slain near Plano as the investigation unfolded.

Mayor John Hendrickson announces the Morris regular city council meeting moves to Tuesday at 7 30 p m in observance of Lincoln s Birthday noting it is an official state holiday. The session will be held in the community room of the First National Bank of Morris.
