13-Year-Old Boy Admits Stabbing of Seneca Girl

A 13-year-old Seneca boy confessed to stabbing Pamela Anderson 19 as she walked a downtown street. Police say a Boy Scout knife was used, leaving a deep back wound. He was detained after his parents informed authorities, and he faces a delinquency petition and psychiatric evaluation. Anderson was hospitalized in Ottawa and reported to be improving.

Union Official Sentenced to Three Years for Perjury

Benjamin Franklin Collins a Detroit union official and associate of Teamsters President James R. Hoffa was sentenced by Judge John M. Cashin to three years in prison for perjury. The case stemmed from a grand jury probe into wiretapping and racketeering in Local 299 of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters where Collins serves as secretary treasurer. He remains free on $2,500 bail pending appeal.

Fiji reports end to poliomyelitis epidemic in Suva

Dr. of medical services declares Suva polio outbreak over after four months. Fiji Public Relations Office lists 313 official cases across Fiji with 75 percent victims under seven. Four adults and four children died. Native Fijians less affected. Europeans accounted for most cases.

Foggy and freezing rain threat continues with cold temps

Burglars Net $125 From Gay Paree Tavern

A break in at the Gay Paree tavern in Coal City at 2 45 a m netted burglars more than 125 dollars and whiskey. The cash register was smashed and a pinball machine emptied before Officer Dean McKinley arrived. Owners John and Vera Parlis and sheriff officials assisted the investigation.

Man Fails in Death by Own Action Near Here

Gardner Ramsey, 23, a Negro from St. Louis, attempted to end his life by slashing his wrists in his 1955 DeSoto parked along a road three miles north of Waksdal Corner early Sunday. Wayne Peacock alerted deputies. Ramsey survived, received stitches, and was jailed after revealing debt troubles.

Slick Streets Trigger Three Morris Collisions

Slick streets caused three vehicle crashes in Morris. At 7 10 a m a two car crash on McKindley and Division left Gus Eleopolus and Clifford Brandt with damaged cars. Iced Streets Challenge Grady County Mobility

Paved highways in Grundy county were cleared of ice at 9 a m today after freezing rain. Hans A Hexdall warned that icing could return tonight as temps near freezing and motorists should stay home if travel is unnecessary. The area saw rapid ice formation and slip injuries, with cinders then salt spread to melt ice. buses were delayed and minor accidents were reported as motorists urged extreme caution.

Explosion Destroys Arthur Leach Residence in Rural Arkansas

Early Sunday a blast and fire destroyed the one story Arthur Leach home on Pine Bluff road 14 miles southeast of Morris. Leach, a local banker and chamber official, estimated losses at 25 000 to 30 000 covered partly by insurance. Family were away in Bloomington at the time. only clothing saved. Neighbors reported flames shooting skyward from an east wing with window glass blown out and heat scorching rooms and apparel. Police investigate whether warning could have averted the tragedy or if they might have perished had they remained home.
