Ford forecast $1 billion a day budget for 1976
President Ford outlined a $349.4 billion budget and a $52 billion deficit for fiscal 1976 with an economic report predicting unemployment at about 8 percent this year and 7.9 percent by end of 1976. He warned of inflation near 7 percent in 1976 and energy driven price rises while urging Congress to act to turn the economy around by year end.

Veterans in Grundy County to share $41,000 dividend
About 540 Grundy County veterans will receive roughly 41 000 dollars in coming months as part of a 335.6 million government dividend from GI insurance policies. Most payouts go to World War II veterans with National Service Life Insurance. World War I vets with Government Life Insurance and Korean War veterans with Veterans Special Life Insurance also participate. Manila plane crash kills 32 in rice field
A Philip pine Airlines Hawker Siddeley prop-jet crashed in a south Manila rice field killing 32 of 33 aboard. Surviving American Roger Collins, burned and delirious, was taken to Makati Medical Center in critical condition. Jesuit Rev. John Hudson Mitchell and two Britons were among the dead. The crash followed a prior air incidents today in Asia.

Unusually Large Flame Seen At Northern Petrochemical Complex
A flare above the Northern Petrochemical complex east of Morris was visible as far as Yorkville about 20 miles away. EPA Region 2 noted no complaints, explaining the burn off of waste gases during a catalyst change and off spec product. The flare ceased after the reaction stabilized.

Dummitt Reported In Good Condition After Drug Overdose
Mark Dummitt, 20, of 1043 Lisbon Street, Joliet, was reported in good condition at St. Joseph Hospital Joliet after an apparent heroin overdose. He had been treated since January 12 and was transferred from Morris Hospital.
