Mrs Nixon to visit Goose Lake Club area in Illinois

Public invited to see Mrs Richard Nixon at Goose Lake Club seven miles east of Morris at 11 15 a m Friday as part of a four site regional tour. Security crews requested invitation while plans include possible special train from LaSalle Chicago and a Dresden nuclear station stop with 90 minute tour. Beaver Lake No 2 subdivision development and Grade 5 police protection also noted with Beaver Lake 300 acres 60 lots.

Rutherford to Speak On Kendall Co Park Details

William L. Rutherford will visit Kendall County to discuss the planned Fox and Little Rock Townships state park. At 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion Home Plano he will explain purchase of 1250 acres from Richard F. Feeney and park development plans. He and Russell Naden will also appear at 9:30 p.m. on TV Channel 60 Aurora for a press conference.

Library board delays brick decision due to missing members

Morris Library Board of Trustees postpones choosing brick for the new building after a Monday meeting with three members absent. Present members reviewed samples, noted Belden Co. bricks and a LaGrange option no longer produced, and approved pursuing uniform color. A special meeting with the architect is planned for Feb. 17 to finalize furnishings specifications.

Pace to Speak at Morris Shrine Club Knights Dinner

Red Pace, a National Football League official from Woodstock, will speak at the Morris Shrine Club and Knights of Columbus joint dinner at 6 30 p m Saturday in the V F W Hall. Pace is a Northern Illinois University graduate with a master’s from Illinois and has coached multiple sports at high school and college levels.

Weather data shows a high of 39 Monday with subzero wind chills last night. Collins Weather Station logged 8 below zero, and downtown Morris registered minus 6 at 11 am with a 5 below start at 9 am. Clouds increase tonight with a zero to 8 below forecast. Wednesday brings lingering clouds and a chance of snow in the afternoon or evening with a high in the lower 20s.

Fatal Crash Near Lawrenceville Kills Woman in Car

Mrs. Florence Richardson, 78, of Oaktown Indiana, died when a semi struck the rear of the car she rode in five miles north of Lawrenceville Illinois. Her husband Charles, 78, was reported in critical condition at a local hospital.

Hospital Trustees Re-Elected in Morris Community Hospital Board

Four men Earl Finland A C Varland Earl Hunt and Robert Trotter were re elected to the Morris Community Hospital board for three years. Arthur Allaben reported 1969 activities and will prepare a brochure for Grundy County citizens to support the annual fundraising drive.

Rivers Announces Candidacy for Another Two Years

Holderman Named To Illinois Court Of Claims

Gov. Richard Ogilvie announced at the Lincoln Day dinner that Atty. S. J. Holderman, GOP county chairman, will join the Illinois Court of Claims to fill an unexpired term. He will serve until 1975 with interim duties beginning now. Senate confirmation in April is required. The court, meeting monthly in Springfield, pays 6500 dollars a year.

Mazon Depot Closure Opposed at Village Board Hearing

Mazon officials welcomed an Illinois Commerce Commission hearing set for March 12 in Springfield to oppose closing and demolishing the Mazon railroad depot. The board earlier adopted a resolution voiced by Harry Henderson, with several trustees and the village president present.

Nelson Honored. Grundy County GOP Salutes Long Service

Nels P. Nelson, county clerk for 23 years, received two tributes at the Grundy County Republican Lincoln Day dinner in Morris. County Board Chairman Sidney Carr lauded Nelson's loyal, conscientious service, and a plaque honored his 23 years as county clerk. The event also recognized James Yatuni Sr. for 50 years as precinct committeeman and included remarks by Gov. Ogilvie and other GOP leaders.

Foreign Students Visit Mazon From University of Illinois

Illinois University exchange students arrived in Mazon for a seasonal visit sponsored by the Future Teachers Association. They stayed with local families, attended a potluck, mixers and a slide program, and will depart Tuesday afternoon to resume studies. Canadian Objects To Test Secrecy

External Affairs Minister Mitchell Sharp told the Commons that Canada has not received any U S reports on the underground October Amchitka test. He said Canada has no basis to decide on a formal protest and noted Ottawa was not shown the findings. Future tests are expected to be up to three times less powerful than the first.

Verona Board Discusses Annexation Plan

Verona village leaders including Russell Finch president and village clerk Mrs. Robert Ragan attended the Sunday meeting. The main topic was annexation of surrounding areas into Verona. Regular meeting time was changed to 11 a.m. on the last Sunday each month.
