City council votes 7 1 at a special meeting to buy a second landfill scraper from Patten Industries Elmhurst for 67 715 with monthly payments of 1317 over 60 months. Alderman Roseland opposes.
Alderman Roseland opposes the scraper citing cold weather limits and need for auxiliary equipment. Mayor Davidson insists the meeting’s purpose is to vote on the scraper. Willmington claims frost can be handled but deep four foot frost blocks use. others note successful use elsewhere.
Dr. Howard Sather testified in Grundy County Circuit Court that Donald Francois suffered a permanent left leg injury when a fertilizer applicator platform broke on July 2 1973. Francois seeks damages from DMI Inc Standard Oil and Amoco for medical costs lost farm income and pain.
Forecast shows tonight with snow likely and low near 15 to 25 degrees. Thursday expects mostly cloudy conditions with snow ending and highs around 27 to 37. A Federal Power Commission judge says the preferred route for Alaskan gas to the lower 48 is a buried pipeline through an Arctic wildlife refuge and across Canada, despite protests from some lawmakers who favor a Canada-free route.
Absentee ballots are available for Morris Community High School District 101 residents who cannot vote on February 19. Applications must be mailed or phoned in by February 14 to Doris Lanning, secretary of the board, at MCHS Morris Illinois 60450. Edmund Pierce of 808 W Jackson Sr was nominated for Morris Township supervisor at a Republican caucus held Tuesday night in the Grundy County Courthouse. There were 72 votes cast. Other Republicans nominated for the April 5 township election were the incumbents Clerk Josie Pack Trustees Willard Sheedy Sr Rome Graham Tom Steele Sherman Hexdall and Assessor Ida Lois. Democratic caucus drew few attendees. Nettle Creek Republicans cast 114 votes. Incumbent supervisor Neeleen Nees and incumbent assessor Edna Nees each 96. Former auditor Bethyl Johnson tallied 100 votes for clerk. Three incumbent trustees totals 100 98 98. Allan Oswood 99. Greenfield Democrats elected Supervisor Ken Lardi Clerk Francis Halpin Jr Assessor Rick Yatuni Trustees Rick Marketti Mike Joyce John Castelli Frank Smolik and Highway Commissioner Howard Lardi. Wauponsee Republicans slate: Supervisor Homer Carr Clerk Ed Walker Assessor Doug Foss Trustees Harry Melby Ronald Harseim Willis Peacock Rich Willis Highway Commissioner Kenneth Hunt. Foss 10 write-ins. all others incumbents. Township without an assessor for a year. Results supplied to Morris Daily Herald.
