Three people died and a fourth was injured in a collision on U S Rt 6 near the Bakelite plant west of Ottawa at 4 pm Sunday. Deceased are Army Sgt Edward Kulbacki 41 his wife Janet 45 and Eileen Chapman 50 of Peru. Virgil Chapman 52 suffered facial and leg injuries. Kulbacki car skidded on ice then struck Chapman's vehicle.
A stiff weekend cold wave in Illinois may yield to a warmer Tuesday with clouds and wind. Temperatures Tuesday likely in the 30s, while Sunday night dropped to 12 below at Pyatt station, colder elsewhere in Rockford at 26 below. Pyatt readings this morning reached a record 30.78 inches. The five day forecast from the Weather Bureau notes possible light snow midweek.
Morris Fire Department responded to a late night fire at the Kingman grocery on Pine Bluff road. The blaze was extinguished before arrival and damaged exterior siding near a fuel oil tank. Fire Chief Myron Bartlett said the cause remains undetermined.
