Illinois Bell representatives and Minooka village president Clyde Heap broke ground for a new ESS office at 102 W McEvilly Rd in Minooka. The 58 by 60 foot building aims to deliver electronic telephone service to 3500 area users starting April 1979 with features like call waiting and direct dialing. Construction by P T Construction runs through June with Western Electric technicians installing the ESS gear.

Burglaries Reported Across Grundy County This Weekend
Four burglaries were reported to the Grundy County Sheriff's Department during the weekend. Nels Rundgren reported at 12 12 p.m. Sunday that items worth 475 dollars were taken from his residence including a 325 dollar speaker and art supplies valued at 150 dollars. The deputy noted a kick in entry on the east side of the residence.

Bail set at 5000 dollars for Donald Pearson 32 in Grundy County Circuit Court after he was charged with reckless homicide in a July 13 two car crash on Interstate 80 near Illinois 47 that killed Theodore and Sophia Branson of Trenton New Jersey. Pearson appeared before Judge Robert Malmquist and the case was continued to January 3 for arraignment on a State's Attorney motion.

Circus tiger mauls tamer in Woodstock incident
Horst Merkl, 36, of Woodstock, was listed in satisfactory condition after a 600 pound Siberian tiger mauled him during a circus act. Merkl was on the tiger Tony when another tiger jumped through a hoop and Tony bit him on the chest abdomen and leg. He was treated at Condell Hospital.
