Social Security Increases Set for January Payments

The Social Security law was amended last October to raise automatic payments starting in January. Benefits will vary by payment type, with widows highlighted as a major beneficiary. Widows who began checks at 62 receive a small increase, while those whose husbands started before 65 or who started widow benefits before 65 do not get the 100 percent basic benefit. Increases appear on February checks.
