Edison plans two Illinois nuclear sites Byron and Braidwood
Commonwealth Edison Co. announced plans for four Westinghouse 1.1 million kW reactors at two Illinois sites near Byron in Ogle County and Braidwood in Will County. The Byron site lies 18 miles southwest of Rockford, with cooling towers planned, while Braidwood will use a 4900 acre cooling lake. Ward said the projects total well over 1 billion dollars and aim to meet 1980s demand for about eight million Edison customers.
