Truman in serious condition shows signs of alertness
Former President Harry S. Truman remained in very serious condition at Research Hospital and Medical Center but was more alert after a restful night. Spokesman John Dreves noted he follows movement with his eyes, spoke only briefly Monday, and kidney output rose to 490 cubic centimeters in the last 24 hours though still inadequate, with vital signs showing high blood pressure and low kidney function.

Kankakee Flood Threat Shrinks With Warmer Weather
The Kankakee River overflowed its banks due to ice jams as temperatures dipped into the teens.
