Shippingport Plant Begins Supplying Duquesne
Pittsburgh area marks a milestone as the Shippingport civilian nuclear plant feeds electricity into Duquesne Light Co. lines for the first time. The reactor along the Ohio River northwest of Pittsburgh is the nation’s first full scale civilian plant, under Atomic Energy Commission supervision, with Calder Hall England the only other full scale plant at the time.
