Forecast calls for warming tonight with a low in the mid 20s and Wednesday highs in the upper 30s. Collins Weather Station posted a Monday high of 30 and a low of 11, while 9 am readings today showed 19 at the station and 11 am downtown Morris reached 26 degrees.
John A. Svizzero aged 33 of Chicago was sentenced by Judge Thomas R. Clydesdale to three to ten years for the July 26 burglary of the Goodyear Service Store at 514 Liberty Street. Co-defendant Sam A. Bozin also drew the same term for the same charge.
Sheriff Richard E. Pierce 35 filed a nominating petition for county clerk on the Republican ticket facing pro tem clerk Thomas H. Parks in the March 17 primary. The slate includes Arthur Meadors for superintendent and numerous precinct races across Saratoga, Garfield, Maine, Morris and other townships.
Chief Circuit Judge Wal ter Dixon dismissed a 16 month mandamus suit filed Aug 1968 by Joan Hummel and Livia Martinucci seeking permits for Treasure Island Trailer Coach Park No. 2 west of Minooka. The case, against county official Eugene Sorensen, ends with no further action expected if the plaintiff does not move.
Secretary of Defense Melvin R. Laird announced that draft calls will fall about 10 percent next year due to Nixon's plan to withdraw 50 000 U.S. troops from Vietnam by mid April He said the 250 000-man draft target could be cut as armed forces strength declines by 50 000 from Vietnam over four months Laird noted Vietnamization and the Tet period context and estimated enemy infiltration would not permit a sustained offensive at this time He also ruled out rapid moves by Cambodian and Laotian forces into South Vietnam to threaten ITI and IV Corps.
Donald Kaufman cooperative education coordinator of Morris spoke to the county board about a proposed Area Vocational Center. Four Grundy County schools Morris Minooka Mazin and Coal City will participate with the center on the Morris High School campus. State and federal funds will cover about 60 percent of construction and 80 percent of operating costs with local districts sharing the rest per pupil. An advisory committee of about 25 will determine needed positions and programs. The board will name a member to the committee later. Also approved 6450.80 in expenses for Illinois Constitutional Convention delegates and noon to 1 30 lunch closures on Dec 23 and all day Dec 26 1969.
